WAXIE Sanitary Supply has been a fixture in the Jan/San industry since 1945, and to think, it all began right here in San Diego, CA when my uncle, Harry Wax, purchased San Diego Janitor Supply. For 65 years WAXIE has provided cleaning supplies to the communities we serve with an enduring combination of service excellence, planning for the future, and investing in our people and our business.
Today we are proud of the fact that our business continues to grow and WAXIE continues to reinvest in areas that assure we remain the best choice for you. Since the last publication, we have expanded our company footprint by way of acquisition to include locations in the Pacific Northwest – Seattle, Washington, Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska, and in the greater Colorado market – Denver, Colorado Springs, and Pueblo, Colorado. This brings our number of dedicated employees to over 800, and WAXIE facilities to 21, with a total square footage of over 800,000; and before the year is over we will add 35,000 square feet of warehouse space to our Northern California facility.
In addition to the acquisitions, WAXIE has more than met our growth and sustainability goals by designing and constructing two new state-of-the-art facilities in Salt Lake City, Utah and Mesa, Arizona. Both facilities were constructed LEED® Silver certified, a national benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. To increase operational efficiencies, we have equipped each facility with narrow aisle technology which allows us to store more products by maximizing space utilization in the warehouse – ensuring we have the product when you order it and providing us the space we need for future growth.
We look to the future with certainty, confident that we will continue to invest in order to provide you, our customer, with the best solutions. We are proud of the online ordering solution we have developed known as Web@Work and will continue to improve this platform. In addition, we now have over 600 items that classify as a “sustainable” product in our Green Partner Support® (GPS) program, an area that will undoubtedly continue to expand. Investing in our people and our systems has always been a hallmark in our business strategy and paramount in providing us the opportunity to serve our customers.
Finally, as I reflect on WAXIE’s family and business history, I am humbled by the growth and success that WAXIE has achieved since that momentous day in San Diego in 1945, and I am extremely proud of the fact that our employee tenure remains high and that many have called WAXIE their home for so many years.
